The 1952 Brownies, only 9 games out of first in late June, stop the senators four-game win streak with a 5-5, 18 inning tie. Satch pitches 10 scoreless innings.

also: Does anybody know why the Browns played 155 games that year? Did they have to replay ties in those days?

Does anybody know why this game was called at the end of 18?

According to the AP story: "An American League rule prohibiting the start of any inning after 12:50 a.m. (local time) brought an end to the lengthy show."

Also ... "The game goes into the record books, but must be replayed from the start at a later date."
