  • Frank Saucier promising career derailed by more than Veeck's midget intervention

Frank Saucier batted .446 in 1949, yet over 60 years later, Saucier’s claim to fame is not his feats at the plate, rather it is the distinction of being the only player in Major League Baseball’s history to be replaced by a midget while playing for the St. Louis Browns.

I recently received some mail correspondence from Frank Saucier, who played for the St. Louis Browns in 1951. Most fans know of Saucier as the player who was pinch hit for by midget Eddie Gaedel. Saucier sent some articles about his career that illustrated the success he had in his short time in baseball, as well as his military service, both of which inspired the article. Enjoy.

Frank Saucier is the father of Kevin Saucier, who was a dependable reliever on the Philadelphia Phillies 1980 World's Championship team.

Are you sure, philliesfiend? I don't see this pair on any father-son list (not to say that it couldn't be an oversight).

      This article also suggests otherwise:
