    I saw my first game when Dad took me to see Mickey get his silver bat for having won the '53 batting title.

    My all-time hero player.

    Washington, you may have enjoyed his performances, but he came from the Philadelphia area (Marcus Hook Twshp., Delaware County, just outside Philly), and Philadelphians are proud that he has lived in their area all his life.

    Mickey Vernon, who won the 1946 and 1953 A.L. batting titles as a Washington Senator turned 90 today.
