  • Former Senators player Bill Currie passes away

    Bill Currie made three appearances for Washington in 1955. He won 16 games for their Double-A affiliate, the Chattanooga Lookouts, in 1954.

    Mr. Billy Currie, 86, of 242 Lakeside Dr., Arlington, Ga., died early Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, 2013, at his residence. His funeral will be a graveside service in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at 11 AM with Rev. Scott Murphy and Rev. Debbie Cone officiating. In case of hard rain showers, the service may possibly be moved to the Arlington United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until 10:45 Am at the Arlington United Methodist Church Friday morning.

    Mr. Currie was born Nov. 29, 1926 in Leary, Georgia to the late Daniel McIntyre Currie and Virgie Griffin Currie. He was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church, was retired as a former manager of the Arlington Oil Mill and was a former professional baseball player, having played with several major league teams including the Atlanta Crackers and the Washington Senators.
