    Barmes played in five games for the Senators in 1953, hitting .200 in five at-bats. He had a much more productive minor league career - most of which was spent in the Senators system - hitting .318 with 1,627 hits in 12 seasons. He hit .300 or better in each of his first six seasons, with a high of .372 in his rookie year.

    Bruce Raymond Barmes, 84, went to be with our Lord on Saturday surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Raymond C. and Esther Sannaman Barmes. He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Barmes.

    Bruce served in the Air Force in 1947 until 1949 and he played professional baseball for 1950 until 1960. He retired in 1991 from Martin Marietta.
