  • Former Senator outfielder, Jose Tony' Zardon passes away at the age of 93

    Jose "Tony" Zardon one of the very oldest of the original Washington Senators has passed away this week (March 21) at the age of 93.
    He spent the full 1945 season with the Senators (his only major leagues season) as an outfielder, , hitting .290, 0 HR, 3 Triples, 13 RBI in 131 at-bats.
    Zardon was born in Havana, Cuba in May of 1923. He was listed as 6' 0", 150 pounds in 1945 in his time as a Senator.
    He was listed by Wikipedia as the 23rd oldest living major leaguer and 4th oldest living original Washington Senator up until the time of his passing
    Among currently living original Washington Senators only Eddie Robinson, 96, and the 9th oldest living major leaguer; Sam Mele, 95; and Gil Coan, 94 surpassed Zardon in age.
